Recycling of Computers, Monitors & Other Electronics

Although there are tens of millions of computers out there, the useful life is normally less than 3 years and shrinking, and advances in architecture and operating speeds and software development are rapidly rendering formerly “cutting-edge” electronics obsolete. So where do we stockpile this graveyard for dead technology? The answer is that in most cases PCs and other electronics are merely chopped up, crushed and sent to a dump.

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has warned that end-of-life electronics pose serious issues regarding proper disposal and potential environmental consequences. The monitors’ cathode ray tube (CRT) contains trace amounts of lead, phosphorous, cadmium and mercury. The glass screen also contains lead-bearing particles.

1NLR is a fully DEP permitted electronics recycling facility and can safely dispose of and recycle these devices 1as well ensuring that a strict “No Landfill” policy is implemented. Through a sophisticated process, a demanufacturing 1of the used electronics is accomplished that enables the recovery and ultimate reuse of many valuable, yet 111potentially hazardous resources. Materials recovered include plastics, metals, leaded and unleaded glass, circuit 11boards, power supplies, and drives. The unique sorting systems insures that all material generated from the 111demanufaturing operation are recycled according to applicable local, state and federal regulations. No equipment 11processed will go to a landfill. All material will go back into the production stream closing the end of life loop.
